Obituary for Dana Lee Yeatman

Dana Lee Yeatman, of the Solway Community of Knoxville, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2018. Dana was born January 30, 1959, in Columbus, Georgia, to parents Myra and Derrill Yeatman.
Dana delighted in his family, and was a loyal and devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, grandson, brother, uncle and friend. His grandkids were one of the great joys of his life.
At home, at work, and at play, he approached each day with earnest vigor, thoughtfulness and determination — always striving for excellence, always setting the bar high, and never settling for less than his best.
Dana worked through Oak Ridge High School, and was proud of his time at Big Ed's Pizza, and Marie Wilde Interior Design. He joined his Dad, Derrill, in the insurance industry, and went on to work for several Independent Insurers throughout the Southeastern United States.
When the opportunity arrived to join Farm Bureau Insurance Group in Clinton, he was grateful to accept, especially because it allowed him the ability to be at home every day with his family. He was proud of The Farm Bureau, what the company stands for, and his part in their growth. He treasured the trust and relationships formed with both his customers and colleagues.
Dana was a Republican with a capital “R”. He believed in and lived for his Family, God and Country.
An avid sportsman, Dana was a crack shot, excelling and taking an active interest in waterfowl conservation and hunting. He so loved his Labrador Retrievers and trained them with a calm and respectful companionship — his beloved Travis, Sugar Bear, Boo and Josie Mae.
The light of Dana’s life were his daughter, Jess, and his grandchildren. He was in the front row of every parent night, school performance, ball game, youth group activity, dance recital, and graduation, flowers in hand. He took an active and loving role with his step-children and their families, counting each as his own.
He took huge pride in his Grandpa name, “Boo Daddy”, and was the organizer of frequent grandchild sleepovers, boating days on his ChrisCraft vessel “Sweet Mama”, bonfires, and fireworks. He organized firefly hunts, cookouts, camp outs, june bug flights, and rides around the property in the Ranger. He shot bow and arrow with them, and let them help him make the most amazing Super Juice for breakfast. His fervent hope was that they remember their adventures and time with him for their entire lives.
During his time and travels, He formed close friendships too numerous to count. He was especially close to his “brothers from another mother”, Pat Bisese and Brig Sampson, and treasured their families as his own.
Dana was organized and meticulous. He made everything surrounding his life and death clear and straight-forward, except how we are to proceed without his physical presence. We are comforted by his thoughtfulness, and the knowledge that he is at peace and with God.
Dana was preceded in death by his father, Derrill. He is survived by his mother, Myra Yeatman, his wife of 13 “lucky” years, Susy Peak Yeatman, his daughter, Jessica (Michael) Martin, his step-children Meghan and Ross Kelley and Erin Kelley (Tim) Dooley, his sisters Tambry (David) Overton, and Tiffany (Sean) White. He will be sorely missed but forever remembered and loved by his grandchildren: Lylah Rose and Ben Baker Martin, Hayden Kelley, and Timmy and Lincoln Dooley, as well as his nieces and nephews, Katie and Michael Overton and Natalie and Caleb White.
Dana’s Celebration of Life will be on Wednesday, August 22, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge. Receiving of Friends will be from 5:00 - 6:30 pm, with his Service at 6:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Dana would be honored with donations to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, http://www.epcknox.org/ , or Ducks Unlimited, https://www.ducks.org/.
