Obituary for Regina Austin O'Neill Butcher

Regina Austin O’Neill Butcher, 69, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at her home.
She was born August 20, 1948 in Walton, New York, the daughter of Thomas H. O’Neill and Celia Austin O’Neill, who are both deceased.
Mrs. Butcher has been an educator for the past 47 years working in the Hamilton County Schools from 1970 – 1973; Anderson County Schools from 1974 – 1987; Daniel Arthur Rehabilitation Center from 1974 – 1987; Clinton Middle School from 1987-1998 and at Lake City Middle School from 1998 – 2018.
She was a supporter of Deaf Education and worked with area hospitals as a sign language interrupter. She also supported The Arts, particularly live theater, Math and Literacy Education, Special Education awareness, acceptance and respect for all students; the Special Olympics, the Holiday Bureau, Relay for Life, Habitat for Humanity, Second Harvest Food Bank, and the Goodwill Industries Job Training Program.
She was a 1970 graduate of UT and remained an avid UT Football fan and tailgater. Mrs. Butcher also coached the Coal Creek Gals softball for middle school girls.
She and her husband portrayed Mrs. Santa Claus for many years in the Oak Ridge Christmas Parade. She also enjoyed depicting “Buttercup”, the Elf for school children in Springfield, MO during the Christmas holiday season.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard “Chuck” Butcher, Jr.
She is survived by:
brother, William Austin O’Neill (Connie) of Oakdale, NY;
nephew, Thomas Austin O’Neill (Ranae) and their son, Billy and daughter, Kaitlin of Mason City, Iowa;
nieces, Christine O’Neill and her children, Austin and Kyle Beck of Holbrook, NY; and Kathleen Hanek (John) of Oak Ridge, NJ; and cousin, Debbie Cobb (Jerry) of Bakersfield, California.
In keeping with the wishes of Mrs. Butcher, she will be cremated. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 7 – 9pm at Weatherford Mortuary. An online guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
