Raymond attended Heritage Fellowship Church in Oak Ridge, formerly, the Oak Ridge Church of God, where he served under 12 Pastors over a period of 66 years. His love and faithfulness to God was proven as he served his church and community as: Church Clerk, Elder, Pastor’s Council, Trustee, Prayer Intercessor, Sunday School Teacher for all age groups, Men’s Fellowship Leader, and as maintenance and grounds keeper. He also ministered in the following outreach ministries: Food Pantry, Prison Ministry, Clothes Closet, and Evangelism Explosion. He taught his family by example the importance of knowing and loving Jesus and putting Him foremost in everything you do. His legend as a true disciple of the Lord will point his family towards God’s love for many generations to come. Raymond was an avid gardener for over 50 years, loving to grow lots of fruits and vegetables at his home. He wouldn’t get upset when the birds would pull up the corn seeds he had planted, saying, “The Lord is just using me to feed His birds.” He owned a farm in Coalfield, Tennessee for ten years, raising animals and fruits and vegetables to feed his family in the 1960’s, teaching his children the importance of hard work and responsibility. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Purdue University, Chicago Coyne Electrical School and the University of Tennessee College of Engineering. Before retiring from Martin Marietta in 1988, he worked for 36 years at all three Government Facilities in Oak Ridge during the Cold War as an electronics and electrical maintenance supervisor. As a 17-year-old, Raymond joined the Army during WWII and was stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged he was later called back into active duty during the Korean Conflict and as a Master Sargent, helping train soldiers in Fort Sill, OK. He later joined the National Guard and took part in the armored tank division in Oak Ridge for eight years. The interment will include the presentation of the American Flag and 21- gun salute from E. Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard. Raymond’s eight grandsons, Anthony, Brandon, Jonathan, Josh, Travis, Joel, Samuel and Andrew will be pall bearers. The family is especially thankful to the numerous friends and healthcare specialists from Brookdale Senior Center in Oak Ridge and Caris Healthcare that have provided incredible support during this difficult time. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Oak Ridge Heritage Fellowship Church on Saturday the 28th at 1:30 PM, immediately followed by the interment at the Oak Ridge Memorial Park. Arrangements by Weatherford Mortuary. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
