Obituary for Vera Mae Hill

Vera Mae Comer Hill, 89, of Oak Ridge, went to meet her Lord and Savior Wednesday, August 14,2019 at Diversicare of Oak Ridge where she fought a courageous battle.
She was born July 4, 1930 in Opelika, Alabama.
On October 22, 1972 she married husband, Adam Virgil Hill in Las Vegas, Nevada. She and her husband lived in California for several years before moving to Tennessee.
Mrs. Hill was a licensed cosmetologist and hairdresser and had worked for many years as a custodian at Oak Ridge Associated Universities, from which she retired. She was a long-time loyal and dedicated member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.
She loved music, singing and playing her guitar. She sang in many concerts and especially loved the blues. She was an exceptional hostess and loved entertaining, cooking and throwing parties for her Elks family of sisters and friends, as well as celebrating and participating in special events of other friends and associates. She especially enjoyed celebrating her birthday on July 4th with fireworks, bar-b-que and the works and was always all smiles! Her friends describe her as a classic dresser and known for the beautiful scarfs she wore. Mrs. Hill loved people and was very caring and compassionate about their needs; never resting until giving her all to make sure those needs were met.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother and step-father, Malissie Comer Sanders and Mose Sanders; sister, Ella Louise Hunter; brothers, Eddie Hunter and A. C. Hunter Jr and her former devoted minister, Elder Tommie Mims.
She leaves to mourn her passing, a devoted cousins, Ernest and Linda Comer Sr of Oak Ridge and Betty Reed and family of Knoxville and niece, Juel Hunter of New York. She is also survived by a host of cousins and friends, too numerous to list, and by her loving church family at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She had been a faithful and devoted member of the church and served in many capacities and activities until her health began to decline.
She was a member of the Roberta Bohanon Temple #1381 and Keblah Court #57 of Eastern Star.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 1 – 2pm at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The funeral will begin at 2pm with Rev. Henry Watson officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
Weatherford Mortuary is handling the arrangements. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
