Obituary for J.C. Price

Long time Oak Ridge resident J.C. Price 90 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 17, 2019. J.C. was born July 6, 1928 in Rogersville, Tn. He was raised on a working farm and attended Maxwell Academy, a proverbial one room school house. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army joining the 101st Airborne Division becoming a paratrooper. J. C. married the love of his life June Sanders in 1948. He attended East Tennessee State University and Lincoln Memorial University where he studied chemistry while working at the Tennessee Eastman chemical company. In 1952 he and June moved to Oak Ridge where he accepted a position at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Analytical Chemistry Division. His work included designing the various sample and analysis programs supporting the booming experimental reactor programs at ORNL. In his 43 years at ORNL he managed several laboratories and hot cell facilities receiving numerous awards and recognition including his team’s contributions to the Three Mile Island accident project. J.C. was a family man and led them on numerous expeditions camping, fishing, and skiing on the local lakes. He also was an accomplished “Mr. Fix-it” and worked on the children and their many friend’s cars and motorcycles. J.C. was preceded in death by June whom he was married for 66 year. Additionally, his parents, Clarence and Rosa Price, brother Earl and sister Ruth preceded him. J.C and June were active members of Kern United Methodist Church for over 25 years. He is survived by his four children Steve (Diane) Price, Oak Ridge, Teresa (Joe) Price-Ross, Seattle, WA, Keith Price, Knoxville, and Randy (Bobbie) Price, Clinton.
Twelve grandchildren; Alisha (Mark) Moreno, Charlotte, NC, Stephanie (Rob) McCormick, Bonaire, GA, Bo (Sophie) Price, Jacksonville, FA, Jason (Heidi) Ross, Lacy, WA, Jennifer (Patrick) Lee, Las Vega, NV, Whitney (Ben) Trusty, Atlanta, GA, Lauren Price, Lindsey Price, Knoxville, TN, Dr. Joe (Leslie) Hoback, Knoxville, TN, Tim Hoback, Austin, TX, David Hoback, Huntingdon, UK, Miranda (Ryan) Price-Doane, Wilmington, NC. Also surviving great grandchildren; Conner and Caroline Moreno, Brennan, Mackenzie, Kayleigh McCormick, Jason Ross, Jr., Melanie, Kylie, Allison, Daniela, Patrick III, Samantha Lee, Miller, Scarlett, Violet, Rowan Trusty, Baya, Oliver, Blakely Doan, Silas, Deacon, Claire Hoback and Penelope Price. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 20th from noon until 2 PM at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral service will follow with Amedisys Chaplain Cherie Merritt officiating. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Pat Summit Foundation Cure for Alzheimer’s in memory of J.C. and June Price.
