Obituary for Eugene William Butler

Eugene William Butler Sr., 75, of Kingston, passed away on October 8th at his residence after a brief illness. He was of the Catholic faith. Gene was born on November, 25th, 1942 and raised in the Bronx, NY. Upon graduation from high school, Gene began his 28 year career in the United States Navy reaching the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He served three tours in Vietnam receiving the Navy Commendation (w/Combat ā€œVā€), Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation, and the Navy Expeditionary Medal among others for his acts of heroism. After retiring from the military, Gene with great honor and respect worked for the Department of Corrections at Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary in Morgan County, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene J. Butler (father) and Nora A. McMahon Butler (mother). He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Bill and Kristie Butler of Montevallo, Alabama; stepdaughter, Doris Church of Grand Pass, Oregon; sister and brother-in-law: Maureen and Joe Fagan of St. Georges Island, Florida; brother, Michael Butler of Newton, New Jersey; many cousins, nieces and nephews; his beloved dogs: Dixie and Tennessee; along with longtime companion Betty Fair of Kingston. In lieu of flowers contributions to the ASPCA would be appreciated. Burial at sea off of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina will be determined at a later date.
