Obituary for William Forrest Dickey, Sr.

William F. Dickey Sr., passed peacefully in Oak Ridge, TN on November 3, 2017 at the age of 80.
William is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Jo Ann L,; Children, Beverly Jeanette and William Jr.; Brothers, Nathaniel Dickey, Michael Dickey (wife Celeste); Sisters, Minnie Ann Dickey-Jones (husband, Rev. Jones), Nancy Dickey Evan (husband Albert); Grandchildren, Michael Joseph (wife Tanisha), Destiny Aria` and his pride and joy great-grandson, Aiden Joseph;
Brother-in-law, Bobby Woods; Sister-in-law, Erin Bounds-Ellis (husband Clarence); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by mother, Mary Ruth Dickey, father, Clifford Dickey, brothers, James and Paul Dickey, grandmother, Annie Redmond and grandfather, James Redmond.
Mr. Dickey served as an infantry specialist with the US Army from March 23, 1959 until March 22, 1961 where he received the Good Conduct Medal, Drivers Badge and M-1 Rifle Badge. He followed up his service to his country by serving with the National Guard for 10 years. As a rifle M16A1 expert and recipient of the Expert Rifleman Badge, he served with the Military Police.
Mr. Dickey retired in 2000 from UT Battelle, after 34 years of loyal service at Oak Ridge National Laboratory where he was a security guard and building grounds foreman.
He was a faithful servant of St. Stephens Episcopal Church where he served a Sexton for the past 39 years and 10 months, until Jesus called him to glory on that faithful day of November 3rd.
His hobbies included gardening, hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys football team.
The funeral will be Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 5pm at St. Stephens Episcopal Church with Father Craig Kallio, Father David Lovett, Rev. William Caldwell and Associate Pastor Ernest Scruggs officiating. A visitation and reception will be held at the church immediately following the services.
Family and friends will meet on Wednesday at 1pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a graveside service. The East Tennessee Veterans Honor Guard will provide military honors.
The family asks that any memorials be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 212 N. Tulane Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
