Stella Ganita Smith

Loving wife and mother

On Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, Stella Smith went home to be with the Lord. She was born on Feb. 12, 1928 to Lakie Alma Shaffer and William Perry Shaffer in Hiltons, Va. She worked for the Tennessee Eastman Company in Kingsport, Tenn., in the late 1940s and married the love of her life, Charles Smith, on Dec. 28, 1948 (they had their 69th wedding anniversary before her passing) and soon after their marriage, they moved to Oak Ridge, Tenn., where she was a loving wife and mother. She loved the Lord and was a Sunday School teacher for many years at the Knoxville Baptist Tabernacle in Knoxville, Tenn. Their family church is Oak Ridge Baptist Church, where they were charter members. Mrs. Smith had two daughters. She is preceded in death by daughter, Pamela Parsley; her parents; brothers, Lloyd Shaffer, Clarence Shaffer, Charles Shaffer and Earl Shaffer; sisters, Ethel Shaffer, Opal Keller, Velda Peters and Lois Allgood. She is survived by her husband, Charles, and daughter, Mary Jane Simcox, her husband, Troy Simcox, and their son Jason Simcox; son-in-law, Mike Parsley, and his son, Matthew Parsley; one sister, Pauline Shipley, and lots of nieces and nephews. The Smiths were lifelong friends and neighbors with the Fosters on East Drive in Oak Ridge. Stella was cherished and very much loved and in the end, dementia and a fall took our beautiful lady from us. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in her memory. Stella will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. An online guestbook can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
