Obituary for Johnny Edward Benson

Johnny Edward Benson went to be with the Lord Saturday the 9th of June. He passed away at his home at the age of 70. He was a resident of Lenoir City, formerly a resident of Karns. He was born in Maryville, Tennessee April 22nd 1948.
At the age of 19 he entered the Army where he proudly served in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. He recovered from his injuries and volunteered for 3 more months in combat. He was a true patriot and loved his country very much.
Johnny’s hobbies were playing golf, playing cards, watching the Vols play and spending time at the beach. Johnny was the kind of man that always greeted you with a handshake and a smile and never let you leave without a hug. He was a kind hearted man who would go to any lengths to help someone out. One of the things he loved the most was spending time with his grandchildren.
Johnny is survived by his wife Linda Stockton Benson; his siblings Earl Benson, Kaye Benson Helton, Rex Benson; his children Randal Benson and wife Tina, Johnna Hullender and husband Alex, Jarrett Benson and wife Lindsay,, step-children Tammy Knippa and husband James, Scott Eller and wife Mary; grandchildren Trace, Justice, and Landria Benson, Rollins and Chappell Hullender, Connor Benson, James, Jacey, and Shelby Knippa, Josh and Katlin Eller.
He was predeceased by his father James Sherl Benson and his mother Blanche Juanita Webb Benson, siblings Ruby Benson, Shirley Faye Benson, Lellia Benson, and Leroy Benson.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 14, 2018 from 5 – 7pm at Weatherford Mortuary. The funeral will follow at 7pm with Rev. James Disney officiating. Family and friends will meet on Friday at 1pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park for a graveside service with military honors by the Volunteer State War Era Honor Guard.
