Obituary for Dr. Richard Green Brantley

Richard (Doc) Brantley's favorite saying was, "Let's go out and make some memories." Sadly, Lewy Body Dementia and a stroke took them away from him before his death on Monday, March 19, 2018. He died at home surrounded by loved ones.
Richard was a beloved urologist in Oak Ridge for almost 30 years and founded Oak Ridge Urology Associates. He loved to fly, ride motorcycles and ATV's, garden, fish and spend time with friends at the cabin on the Clinch River. He was an Army veteran, drafted as a surgeon during the war in Vietnam and assigned to a hospital in Alaska.
The heartbreak of his life was losing his son, Richard G. Brantley, II. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Wilma Pack Brantley and his son Charles Frank Brantley and his wife Rhonda of Clinton, TN. The mother of his children, Charlotte Walden, remained a great friend. Mr. Big was his constant canine companion.
The family would like to especially thank his physician, William Robinson, III, for taking excellent care of Richard. They are also indebted to Ben Pack who helped lead Richard's team of caregivers at home after his stroke. Other members of "Team Brantley" who ensured he was happy and safe and deserve recognition are his nephew, Jonathan Maples; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Brantley; Danielle Anderson and Pless Sterling. The family is also grateful to his three physician friends who remained his consultants throughout his illnesses, Brad Camp, Marv Weninger and Ron Case.
Interment at Oak Ridge Memorial Park with military honors will be Friday, March 23, 2018 at 1:00 pm. The family will have a memorial service at 2:30 pm at the Peninsula at Calhoun's in Oak Ridge. A wake will follow at the Event Center at Calhoun's.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials go to the Methodist Medical Center Foundation, 990 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or online at mmcoakridge.com/giving.
