Obituary for Charles "Chuck" Edward DeZearn

Charles “Chuck” Edward DeZearn, age 85, of Oliver Springs, TN passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at his home.
He was born August 10, 1932 in Corryton, TN, the son of Walter and Nellie Miller DeZearn.
Chuck served his country in his service with the US Navy from May 5, 1952 – March 4, 1954. He was an active and long-time member of Faith Masonic Lodge #756. He was also a long-time member of Woodland Park Baptist Church. In earlier years, he enjoyed bowling and played on several leagues. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, William Holbert DeZearn, Grace Geneva Hurst and Billy Joe DeZearn.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, JoAnn Ousley DeZearn;
son, Charles Edward DeZearn Jr. and wife Cee of Charleston, SC;
daughter, Edie Shepherd and husband Marvin of Knoxville;
brothers, Jerry DeZearn and wife Glenda, LaMar “PeeWee” DeZearn and wife Jean, James Earnest DeZearn and Paul DeZearn; sisters, Ruby Louise Ezell, Carol Loy and husband Elmer and Mary Bates; grandchildren, Sara DeZearn and Chelsea Drake and husband Morgan, all of Charleston, SC; Greg Handy Jr. of Knoxville and his fiancée, Kendall Inglish, Charles Handy of Oak Ridge and Melissa Ivey and husband Phillip of Oliver Springs and great-grandson, Gamble Handy of Knoxville. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 6, 2017 from 5 – 7pm at Weatherford Mortuary. A Masonic Service will follow at 7pm, led by members of Faith Masonic Lodge #756 and the funeral will begin at 7:15pm. Pastor Tim Kimsey will officiate.
Family and friends will gather on Thursday at 2:00pm at the Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Highway for a graveside service. Military honors will be provided by the US Navy Honor Guard.
The family asks that any memorials be made in his memory to the American Heart Association.
