She was the longest residing client since the opening of the facility in October 2013. Amedisys Hospice attended her comfort care at end of life. She was retired from Y-12 Martin-Marietta after 25 years in service.

Born in Harriman June 6, 1935 to Jesse and Blanche (Brummit) McNew, Betty was raised dairy farming. At the age of 15, she drove the milk truck to Norris Creamery. Other work included logging on the mountain and farming bottom fields of McNew land on Riggs Chapel Road. She worked as a teenager at Emory Five and Dime Store and Miller and Brewer's in Harriman. Betty graduated from Harriman High School in 1954. Sister to three brothers, she is preceded in death by Bill McNew of Harriman and J.B. McNew of Loudon. One surviving brother, Ronnie resides with his family in Chattanooga.

While a senior in high school, Betty met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Harold Fine when she was working at Russell's Market in Harriman. It was love at first sight and a relationship that flourished for 49 years until Bob's death in 2002. Their happiest times were farming on their land on Millstone Mountain where they raised Nubian goats and Santa Gertrudis hybrid cattle.

Betty is survived by her son, Michael Fine and grandsons Josh and Jon of Oak Ridge. Daughter, Vickie Harris of Oak Ridge and grandson Jason Whittington, his wife Rachel, and great grandchildren Maria, 17 and Nathan,12 of Kingston. Granddaughter, Jessie Whittington is from Harriman. Grandson, Matthew Harris is from Dayton, Ohio.

It was Betty's joy to make fleece blankets in her later years. Some were given away to Wartburg DHS, Oak Ridge Fire Department, NHC Nursing Home, and residents of Canterfield. More fleece blankets were sold at the Lavender Festival last summer. Other hobbies included reading, crocheting, sewing, and gardening. In 2008-2011, Betty enjoyed working in acute care waiting room at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge as a volunteer.

Betty Fine believed in God and a loving savior, Jesus. Her faith gave her courage, hope, and assurance of eternal life. Reverend Hascue Carter will officiate the memorial and burial service.
