Obituary for Betty Johnson Collins

Betty J Collins, 77, of Oak Ridge, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2018 at her home.
She was born January 23, 1941 in Oliver Springs, TN, the daughter of Albert Richard Johnson and Anna Duggins Johnson. She graduated from Oliver Springs High School in 1959.
Betty has a history of employment with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the former K-25 plant and the Y-12 Nuclear National Security Complex over a 31 year career. At the time, she became the most senior female leader within the organization. She retired from Lockheed Martin as a Transportation and Logistics Supervisor responsible for the global movement of goods and materiel.
After retiring from Y-12 in 2000, Betty began volunteer work at ADFAC (Aid to Distressed Families of Appalachian Counties) and continued through 2017.
Betty was a faithful long-time member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Oak Ridge, where she served as Recording Secretary for over 41 years; as elder and Clerk of the Session, serving multiple terms; as an active member and President of the Cumberland Presbyterian Women’s Ministry and chair of the Ruth Circle; and as a member of the Missions Ministry.
Betty enjoyed traveling. She has visited all 50 states and 14 foreign countries.
She is survived by her son, Brian Collins of Sydney, Australia and close cousins, Albert Duggins of Raleigh, NC, Jack Duggins of Oak Ridge, Bruce Duggins and wife Phyllis of Oliver Springs, and Virginia Shipley and husband John of Oliver Springs.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 2 – 4 pm at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A Memorial Service will follow at 4pm with Rev. Larry Blakeburn officiating. Those attending are invited to help celebrate Betty’s life by wearing a touch of her favorite color purple along with their attire. The family asks that any memorials be made in her memory to the church, located at 127 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. An online guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
